I haven’t been very good at writing up reviews on some of my favourite places to eat as a coeliac. I go to Vera’s so often, I just cannot believe I have never reviewed them on my blog!
Vera’s Kitchen is based on the high street of Lechlade, Gloucestershire near The Cotswolds. They are a café that offer breakfasts and lunch, as well as having a B&B. I have never stayed in the B&B as it is so local to me, but I have enjoyed breakfast and lunch there on many occasions.
They don’t have gluten free options labelled on their menu (which I would say is the only negative as it would make our lives easier!) but if you speak to a member of staff, they’re always happy to advise on what is safe to eat. They have gluten free bread so all of their sandwich options can easily be made gluten free – my favourite is the brie and bacon! Their menu does change but they always have gluten free options available.
I sometimes just call in to get a cake to take-away (you can eat in as well). They always have a gluten free option but often have a gluten and dairy free option too. Always check with the server which ones are gluten free (as they aren’t all) and they use separate tongs to pick them up with.
I would recommend, if you are planning a trip, to call in advance and to book a table as they can get very busy and are quite small – they appear to be full every lunch!
I’ve never had an issue eating at Vera’s Kitchen, and have always loved my food. The staff are always so lovely too and very accommodating – they never make you feel awkward about ordering gluten free and are all very knowledgeable. If you have ever been there before, I would love to know what you ordered!
